Chef DeeDee Sledge Coleman is the heart and vision behind A Mother’s Recipe, A Daughter’s Journey. Her love for cooking began in her mother’s small Alabama kitchen, where simmering pots, shared stories, and the steady rhythm of family shaped her earliest memories. Watching her mother and aunts create meals from secret family recipes sparked a passion that stayed with her and eventually guided her into her life’s calling.
After nine years in corporate America, DeeDee traded business suits for aprons and built the company that reflected her true purpose: Southern Cooking Girl Creations, Inc. Today it is home to Cooking With A Twist Catering and Meal Plans, DEElicious Red Velvet Waffles, and her popular Cooking with a Twist classes. Her dishes honor the traditions she grew up with while adding a creative touch that is now her signature.
Her work has earned recognition, loyal customers, and a reputation for soulful cooking that comes straight from the heart. To Chef DeeDee, southern cuisine is more than comfort food. It is history, love, and identity served on a plate. She calls it “food made from the soul of a southern woman.”
